Hiring Process
Our hiring process is clear, supportive, and built around you. Each stage is a chance for us to get to know you better — and for you to see if Checkatrade feels like the right fit.
Thoughtful. Transparent. Built around you.
We want every new joiner at Checkatrade to thrive, so our hiring process is designed to help you shine, and help us get to know each other the right way. We move at pace, but we do it with care, so every step adds value (not just admin).
We'll respect your time and communicate clearly at every stage.
We'll give feedback - because every interview should offer value, no matter the outcome.
We'll move quickly, but with purpose. If we think you're the right fit, we won't keep you waiting.
What to expect when you apply
For some roles, steps may be combined or skipped. Once you apply, your Talent Acquisition partner will confirm what to expect. Our aim is to make the process straightforward and positive for both you and us.

How We Use AI
in Recruitment
at Checkatrade
At Checkatrade, we're an AI-first company. We embrace what AI can bring to the workplace, but we also know how important it is to keep recruitment fair, transparent, and people-led. This page explains how AI is — and isn't — used in our hiring process.

What we don't do
We don't use AI to screen applications. Every CV and application is reviewed by a real member of our Talent Acquisition (TA) team. We believe candidates deserve human judgment from the very start.
We don't use AI to make hiring decisions. AI is a supporting tool, not a decision-maker. The choice to move a candidate forward, or to make an offer, always sits with our people.
How we do use AI
Metaview for interview notes – We use a tool called Metaview during some interviews. It records and transcribes conversations so that interviewers can focus fully on you, not on note-taking. The notes are summarised by AI, but every hiring manager reviews and interprets.
Stage-by-stage guidance
Application & screening
Feel free to use AI to polish your CV — just make sure it reflects your actual experience.
Interviews
Use AI to practise, sure. But on the day, we want to hear your own voice. Honest answers beat polished scripts every time.
Assessments & try outs
Many roles include a presentation or case study. These are designed to show how you think, not how an AI tool writes. Please don't submit AI-generated answers. We're looking for your creativity, not ChatGPT's.
Onboarding
If you join the team, we'll support you in using AI tools responsibly to work smarter and more confidently.
Final note
We see AI as a tool — not a shortcut. Use it to prep, practise and plan. But remember, your success at Checkatrade comes from showing us who you are. That's what helps us find the right person — and get the job done right.
